It Ends With Us Author Colleen Hoover has addressed the changes between the book and the movie. The 2016 best-seller was finally adopted in a film starring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni as the lead. For instance, the restaurant owned by Atlas played by Brandon Sklenar, who is actually the man of Lily’s heart is not called Bib’s. In an exclusive interview with E-news the famous author Hoover shared some interesting facts about the upcoming much anticipated romantic drama. Let’s check out what the author has unveiled.
Author Colleen Hoover said every adaptation things have to change
The 44-year-old shared to the outlet, “With every adaptation, things have to change. You’re trying to condense this whole storyline into a film, so there were some changes to make the flow better.”
For instance, the restaurant owned by Atlas played by Brandon Sklenar, who is actually the man of Lily’s heart is not called Bib’s.
“It stood for something in the book that became a big thing for Lily to show how much she meant to him,” the author expressed. “So that changed to Root in the movie because we didn’t have as much time to put in all of the things that happened in the book to make that significant moment happen in the movie.”
Moreover, she continues, “changing it to Root went back to a conversation they had as kids in the film [from which] you get the same feels that you got in the book. It’s just completely different. And then, obviously, the ages.”
Directed by Justin Baldoni who also plays the role of Ryle the story begins with a beautiful young woman Lily Bloom who had a traumatic dream of opening a flower shop. After finally fulfilling her dream Lily runs into a handsome young man named Ryle in her flower show and falls in love. Things were going well between the couple until Lily’s ex-love Atlas came back in her life leading to some unpleasant consequences.
There is a lot of debate going on about casting 36-year-old Lively in the role of Lily who as per the book’s description is in her early 20s. However, for the creator herself age isn’t an issue.
“We aged up the characters,” Hoover noted. “Eight years ago, when I wrote the book, new adult was huge. And everyone was wanting to read characters in their very early 20s. And this is such a tough subject matter that putting young, young characters on screen just didn’t feel right to us. So I think aging them up was such a great move, and it worked so well on film.”
Its Ends With Us will hit theatres on Aug. 9.
