Blake Lively is all set to play Lily Bloom in the film adoption of the New York best-selling book ‘It Ends With Us’. However, the actress is facing a lot of criticism after some pictures from the movies behind the scenes went viral. The netizens criticize Lively’s bizarre costumes. She was wearing patterned pants, a quilted coat, and a patchwork jacket. However, the novel’s author Colleen Hoover now comes in defense of the costume and the makers. In an interview with Jenna Bush Hager Hoover shared her thoughts on the issue.
Hoover said the concern shows how much the audience cares about the film ‘It Ends With Us’
Hoover is taking the criticisms in a positive way. As she “loves” the concern of the audience. She said, “I don’t remember describing outfits at all. I don’t care what they have on. In my head, it’s about the conversation they’re having and the story. It’s the same way in the movie.”
Moreover, she added, “You’ve seen a couple of outfits that are completely out of context. I’m not worried about it.”
However, apart from the outfits, the fans are also concerned about the age of the cast. As per the book, the protagonists are 23 and 30 years old. So the actors are quite older considering the age of their characters.
The story follows Lily (Lively), a florist who’s confused between an abusive surgeon named Ryle (Baldoni), and her childhood love, Atlas (Brandon Sklenar).
However, Hoover, there isn’t anything problematic about it. “Back when I wrote It Ends With Us, the new adult [genre] was very popular. You were writing college-age characters. That’s what I was contracted to do,” the author explained. “I made Lily very young. I didn’t know that neurosurgeons went to school for 50 years. There’s not a 20-something neurosurgeon. As I started making this movie, I’m like, ‘We need to age them out, because I messed up.’ So that’s my fault.”
Moreover, she is “extremely happy with the casting,” as she loves Blake in The Gossip Girl.
“I don’t really picture characters in my head as I write,” she said. “It’s more of a personality thing. I picture like borders and then who they are inside.”
She added, “I got to see the footage they filmed thus far. I’m not a crier. I know that I write emotional books but I’m not an emotional person. And I cried so much on set.”
She also said by addressing the fans, “You guys are going to be so happy. I’m extremely happy and now my expectations are up and I’m going to keep them there.”
