British-Indian actor Jason Shah who is gaining immense popularity for his role as villainous British officer Alistair Cartwright in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar opened up about his character in brief in his much-awaited Netflix series. During his interview with Zoom Shah candidly unveiled a lot of facts. Let’s check out what he has said.

Jason Shah said the feedback from Heeramandi has been extremely positive

While conversing with the entertainment network, the actor was asked what feedback he is getting after the series’s release. “The feedback has been extremely positive. Somebody just sent me a message, saying you played the role of a jerk, really well. I guess that’s the point when you are able to make a person despise your character with such ferocity, You can say mission accomplished,” Jason said.

Later on, he also revealed how he got selected for the role, “I got a call from my agent. I have been working with him for the past 15 years. I went for the reading. And I won’t forget it as I was sitting there, going through the script. Sanjay came into the room. It looked as if he was taking something out of a cupboard or looking for something. I said hello he replied the same, short and curt. He looked at me twice and left the room. I later understood he had not come for anything in the cupboard, But to nonchalantly set his eyes on the English officer he was about to choose for the role of Alistair Cartwright.”

Moreover, he also revealed he has no fear of being typecast for playing a negative role as he has “done many negative roles. And quite enjoy doing them as usually for most of your time on screen, you are in an authoritative position.”

Reflecting on his childhood being a British-Gujarati, how it helped him understand the dynamics of different cultures. “My father is Gujarati and my mother, English has given me a life that is incomparable to many others. I have seen life from both sides of the cultural divide. I think limitations are only in the minds of those who limit themselves. I am extremely blessed and thankful for all the work, that I have done and received on all three platforms – TV, web series, and movies,” Shah said.

Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar is now streaming on Netflix.
