Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam’s upcoming much-anticipated project ‘Thug Life’ is finally off the set. On September 24, the news was disclosed by the film’s official social media handle. Moreover, it also shared a behind-the-scenes video of the upcoming movie. The story of this highly awaited project has been penned by its star and producer, Kamal Haasan. Along with Haasan, the film also features Kamal Haasan, Trisha, Abhirami, Nasser, Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi, Gautham Karthik, Joju George, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Vaiyapuri in significant roles. The details about the plot of ‘Thug Life’
Although there aren’t any details disclosed about the film, it is revealed that the story is about thugs, who are professional robbers and murderers in India. The film’s promo was officially unveiled in November 2023.
On September 24, the movie’s official handle disclosed a behind-the-scenes video with the caption reading, “Shooting Completed. #Thuglife enters the next phase (sic).”
‘Thug Life’ also marked the collaboration of Mani Ratnam and Kamal Thug Life’ who are reuniting after 36 years. The last time they collaborated was in the blockbuster flick, ‘Nayakan’.
Jointly produced by Raaj Kamal Films International, Madras Talkies and Red Giant Movies, the music of the upcoming venture is composed by AR Rahman, editing by Sreekar Prasad and cinematography by Ravi K Chandran.
Initially, actor Dulquer Salmaan was part of the film. However, Dulquer was replaced by Simbu since he was ruled out of the film due to continuous delay.
Apart from Dulquer, actor Jayam Ravi was also opted out to play an important role due to being backed out due to date issues. For now, Ashok Selvan has been chosen to replace Ravi.
The release date of the upcoming venture
The film, which was officially announced in November 2022 under the tentative title Kamal Haasan 234, commenced its principal photography in January 2024 in Chennai along with a temporary location schedule in New Delhi.
The makers also announced the film is scheduled to release in 2024 in theatres. However, the release date is yet to be revealed.
Meanwhile, the post-theatrical streaming rights were officially obtained by Netflix for ₹149.7 crore.
Needless to say, it’ll be incredibly exciting for Haasan’s fans to finally get to see his iconic collaboration with the legendary director after three decades.
