Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis officially started filming the sequel of the popular film Freaky Friday. On Monday, the actors shared with the fans a glimpse of the long-awaited follow-up film. In the behind-the-scenes pic, Curtis and Lohan hold hands while sitting on the steps to their trailers. The duo is all set to prepare once again to embody the mother-daughter duo Tess and Anna Coleman from the 2003 remake of the beloved 1972 adaptation. The caption of the video reads, “The Colemans are back and coming to theatres in 2025! The sequel to Freaky Friday is now in production!”
In March 2024, the Freaky Friday sequel was all set to take off after Disney tapped Nisha Ganatra as the film’s director.
As per the source of The Hollywood Reporter, who also first broke the news about welcoming Ganatra as the director of the much-anticipated film revealed that preparations are now going on for the production to begin ramping up this summer and film the project in Los Angeles.
Apart from the comeback of Lohan and Curtis as the iconic daughter-mother duo from the 2003 film, Andrew Gunn is also taking back the producer’s gig, alongside Kristin Burr and Ann Marie Sanderlin.
Moreover, Entertainment Tonight also reported that the script had been written by newcomer Elyse Hollander who is notable for penning the Black List-beloved screenplay, Blonde Ambition.
Curtis has not shared her excitement of again becoming a part of the sequel.
Last year to The New York Times, the actress noted, “People wanted to know if there was going to be another Freaky Friday. Something really touched a chord, When I came back, I called my friends at Disney and said, ‘It feels like there’s a movie to be made.'”
Meanwhile, Lohan also shared at the time, “Jamie and I are both open to that. So we’re leaving it in the hands that be.”
Lohan opened up about where she would like to find her character, Anna Coleman, in the new installment.
