Ilkay Gundogan is all set to make a grand in Manchester City after re-signing a one-year contract with the team on Friday, August 23. The former captain of the Premier League champions left it for Barcelona in 2023.

Ilkay Gundogan opened up about his comeback in the Manchester City
On August 23, the midfielder posted a video on his official X account announcing his comeback in the City.
He said in the video which is captioned “I’m back 💙”, When you leave this place you realise what you have…realize how amazing the time was, realize how big the club is..the best club in the world.”
The video concluded with the footballer saying, “ It feels just so nice to be home.”
Simultaneously, the 33-year-old also said in a statement, “My seven years at Manchester City were a time of pure contentment for me, both on and off the pitch.”
“I grew as a person and a player, developed a special relationship with the City fans and enjoyed amazing success. It was an exceptional period in my life. To have the opportunity to return here means so much,” he shared.
At his time in the City he was part of 14 major wins including the Champions League and five Premier League titles.
Ilkay Gundogan on leaving Barcelona
For his Braca fans Gundogan has shared an emotional note on his social media about the ending of his journey.
He wrote, “After just one year it’s already time to say goodbye. I came here to face a new, exciting challenge, and I was ready for it. I have given everything to fight for the team and the club the best possible way in a difficult season.”
Moreover, he seemed a little upset with the club, noting in the conclusion, “Now I am leaving in a difficult situation, but if my departure can help the club financially, it makes me a bit less sad. Nevertheless, it’s been a time with incredible experiences and ups and downs – I always wanted to play at Barça, and I am very grateful for a memory and experience that I will remember for my life. I wish you the best for the season and for the future. The fans deserve to get this big club back to the world’s best.”
With his 51 appearances in the team, Gundogan has helped Barca to secure a second-place finish in the 2024-25 La Liga.
