Matty Healy said he became way more well-known public figure for loads of different reasons
The musician started the conversation by reflecting on the things that influence music these days after he “became a way more well-known public figure for loads of different reasons.”
“I would kind of just be lying if I made a record about, I don’t know, all the stuff that was said about me or my casual romantic liaisons,” Matty said on the podcast, “or whatever it may be that I’ve kind of become known for, just because I was famous.”
After indirectly addressing his and Swift’s relationship the singer who got engaged to Gabbriette Bechtel in June shared how his personal experience inspired his musical transformation.
“I think that a lot of artists become very interested in their lore,” he added, “or they become interested in the things that have happened outside of their art that people know about, and they want to address that. And fair enough.”
Moreover, he also shared that it isn’t his personal life which is playing a key role in his style of music.
“I think that that’s an obvious thing to draw from,” He continued.“I’m just not interested in it. The idea of making a record about something that personally happened to me, that by the time I put it out is gonna be like two years old, I see people doing that as well, and it’s not interesting.”
In fact, he “used to write about relationships a lot more” using “journal entries and little bits of heartbreak,” which changes into music now in order to start a conversation.
“My work is, I hope, interesting art pop,” Matty shared, “that maybe helps popularize academic subjects that I’m really interested in.”
