On August 19th, the MTV video music awards (VMA) announced an additional list of award nominees. Previously all nominations for the awards were announced on 26 th July. However, this Friday VMA added three more categories to the list. The newly nominated artists included k-pop sensations BTS and BLACKPINK.
VMA nominees BTS in six and BLACKPINK in one category
In VMA’s recently added category we can see BTS and BLACKPINK. BTS was previously ‘Best K-pop’, ‘Best Choreography’, ‘Best Visual Effects, and ‘Best Metaverse Performance’. In the newly added categories, JungKook was nominated individually with American singer-songwriter Charlie Puth in the ‘Song of Summer category ‘. The 24-year-old BTS member collaborated with Puth in his new single released ‘Left and Right’, which was released on 24th June. The song become a huge hit overnight and both of them received a lot of appreciation. Moreover, it’s JungKook’s first time as an individual nominee.
Apart from that, the group was also nominated for ‘Group of the Year. So in total, they have a total of six nominations. In the ‘Best K-pop’ category, they were nominated for their new song ‘Yet To come’, which is a single of their new ‘Proof’ album, ‘Best Choreography’ for ‘Permission to Dance’ and ‘Best Visual Effects for ‘My Universe’, which is their first collaboration with Coldplay.
Besides BTS another internationally famous K-pop group BLACKPINK also added new nominations. They are nominated in the ‘Group of the Year category alongside Silk Sonic, City Girls, BTS and other popular groups. The girl group consisting of four members Jennie, Lisa, Jisoo and Rosé are all set to perform for the first time on MTV VMA. They become the first girl group to perform on the stage of VMA.

Details of the event
The 2022 MTV Video Music Award will be held on Sunday, August 28th, at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Jack Harlow, LL Cool J, and Nicki Minaj will host the event.
