Sarod players Amaan and Ayaan Ali Bangash opened up about their love for music. The musical brothers who inherited their love for art from their parents, sarod maestro Amjad Ali Khan and Subhalakshmi Borooah Khan said music is like a meditative process for them. In an interview with Times Entertainment the brothers who also hosted the music talent show Sa Re Ga Ma. Let’s check out the complete details of this story.

Amaan and Ayaan Ali Bangash said their parents encouraged them to get into the arts 

Amaan told the outlet, “We grew up with music and art. Art in the form of paintings, drawings, sketches have always been around us, woh ghar ka ek mahaul raha hai hamesha…both our parents encouraged us to get into arts.Ayaan is a born artist and there was a time when I used to sketch. I would even sketch some actors and actresses.” 

Moreover,Ayaan added that apart from music he is also passionate about painting and also that he has been painting since his childhood and he even showcased his works in an exhibition in Delhi. 

Ayaan said,”It was in the year 2000. MF Husain saab launched it and Dilip Kumar saab was the chief guest. Since an early age, we were both inclined towards drawing, but it was influenced by Hindu mythology. We used to read Amar Chitra Katha, those colours and characters were very fascinating.”

Meanwhile, addressing the close connection that music and visual arts have on them the two shared, “We did two concerts one in Mumbai and one in Kolkata based on the theme navrasa.Nau raag, nau taal and nau rang. As we would perform, Paresh Maity ji would create an artwork and it would be completed as we performed. That painting would later go on sale and proceeds would go to an NGO.” Amaan added, “Like music, art is a meditative process. It is said that raag (music), rasoi (cooking), pagdi (tying turban) can’t be repeated in the same way each time. Even when you follow the same process, it will come out differently each time and that’s the beauty of art, you can’t predict it.”

The duo is notable for their works Raga Puriya Kalyan, Rageshwari (2002), Strings Attached (2006) – with Matthew Barley (cello), Reincarnation (2006), Mystic Dunes (2006), Truth (2007), Passion (2007), and Dreamz’ (2007).
