Streaming giant Netflix has announced a documentary on ace Indian filmmaker SS Rajamouli. Rajamouli has been one of the few director to took Indian cinema in global level since his last release RRR has earned multiple international nomination at the Golden Globe Awards, 28th Critics’ Choice Awards and even earned an Oscar for Best Original Song for the song ‘Naatu Naatu’ at the 95th Academy Awards, making it the first song from an Indian film, as well as the first from an Asian film, to win in this category. Needless to say his milestones are uncountable. Therefore, Netflix has decided to give a tribute to this legend. On 6th July the streaming platform made this big announcement via their official Instagram account.
The documentary is titled Modern Masters: SS Rajamouli
Netflix shared a poster featuring the filmmaker with the caption, “One man. Numerous blockbusters. Endless ambition. What did it take for this legendary filmmaker to reach his peak? Modern Masters: S.S. Rajamouli, coming on 2 August, only on Netflix!

The docu will feature his close collaborators and some renowned Indian and international film personalities such as James Cameron, Joe Russo, Karan Johar, Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Jr NTR, and Ram Charan. Notable for his films like, ‘Baahubali’ franchise, ‘RRR’, ‘Eega’, ‘Magadheera’ an interview with the director is also included in the docu.
Produced by Applause Entertainment and Film Companion Studios the biographical documentary is helmed by Raghav Khanna.
Monika Shergill, Vice-President Content, Netflix India also shared a statement regarding the documentary.
Shergill said in the statement,“S.S. Rajamouli is an icon whose visionary storytelling and cinematic brilliance has built deep fandom and put Indian cinema on the global map. Sameer Nair, Managing Director of Applause Entertainment also said of the upcoming venture, “His uniquely inventive narrative style has revolutionized Indian filmmaking and we are excited to present his artistic development from his humble beginnings to ‘Baahubali’ and ‘RRR’.”
The SS Rajamouli documentary Modern Masters: SS Rajamouli will start streaming on Netflix from August 2.
