Paris Olympics 2024, Day 9: PR Sreejesh Takes Indian Hockey on Semi-final of The Prestigious Event

India has a victorious day on the 9th day of the Paris Olympics 2024 thanks to the marvelous hockey team. On Sunday 4 August, an exemplary performance from the men’s hockey team from the goalkeeper, PR Sreejesh led them to the semi-final in the prestigious event. On the other hand, the hope for another medal seems to have ended in heartbreak after badminton player Lakshya Sen lost the semi-final against Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen. Moreover, the hope for a medal ended in hockey as Lovlina Borgohain lost her quarter-final. Let’s check out some important moments from the 9th day of the event.

Golf

India’s Shubhankar Sharma ended his Olympics campaign of T40 with a total of 283 strokes and at the same time with a total of 285 strokes, Gaganjeet Bhullar put an end to his T45. 

The men’s tournament ended with Scottie Scheffler, Tommy Fleetwood, and Hideki Matsuyama holding free positions respectively.

Shooting

Vijayveer Sidhu and Anish Bhanwala missed out on their place in the final round having finished fifth and seventh in Round 1 of the qualifiers. Sidhu gained a total of 583-26x, while Bhanwala recorded 582-22x.

In the women’s event, Maheshwari Chauhan and Raiza Dhillon also concluded their campaigns in 14th and 23rd place with a score of 118 and 113.

India’s performance in hockey proved to be magnificent in the Olympics. The Indian men become invisible after their quarter-final triumph over Great Britain in men’s hockey 4-2. Harmanpreet Singh, Sukhjeet Singh, Lalit Upadhyay, and Raj Kumar Pal filled the scoresheet for India. Indian skipper Harmanpreet Singh led India from a penalty corner in the 22nd minute. 

Athletics

Parul Chaudhary ended with another season’s best timing of 9:23.39 in women’s 3000m finishing 8th in her group. 

In the men’s long jump, Jeswin Aldrin pulled his best attempt at 7.61m finishing 26th.

Boxing

India’s time in boxing didn’t end well as the last surviving boxer, Lovlina Borgohain faced a heartbreaking defeat by China’s Li Qian in the quarter-final of women’s 75kg. 

The former Tokyo bronze medallist is going home empty-handedly from Paris with a loss of 1-4.

Sailing

Finished 7th in the seventh race of men’s ILCA 7, Vishnu Saravanan ranked 24th in the eighth race. Placed 18th among 43 sailors, Saravanan qualified for the finals with a spot in the top 10.

In women’s ILCA 6, finished 21st and 31st in the seventh and eighth race India’s Nethra ended ranked 25th on the overall standings.
