Despite seeing a ray of hope on the last day the time isn’t in favor of Indian sports in the 2024 Paris Olympics. Although Neeraj Chopra and Vinesh Phogat take India to a glorious final, the latter has to face an unexpected exit. On the other hand, the disappointment continues as Olympic silver medalist Mirabai Chanu is returning empty-handed from this year’s Olympics after finishing fourth in her weightlifting event missing the bronze. Wrestling
After Vinesh Phogat’s heartbreaking exit from the gold medal match in the Olympics. Wrestler Antim Panghal continues the agony by technical losing (0-10) to Türkiye’s Zeynep Yetgil in the 53kg pre-quarterfinals.
Nevertheless, the Turkish wrestler got eliminated in the quarterfinals by Annika Wendle of Germany.
Weightlifting
Tokyo Olympic silver medalist Mirabai Chanu ended the 2024 Olympic campaign empty-handedly after fishing in 4th place in the women’s 49kg weightlifting event.
After lifting 88kg in the snatch and 111kg at the semis she made a failed attempt of 114kg lift.
Table Tennis
India’s journey in table tennis also came to a heartbreaking end with the Indian women’s team, featuring Manika Batra, Sreeja Akula, and Archana Kamath facing a hard defeat of 3-1 by the German team.
Despite initially making the score equal the Indian women failed to defend the counterattack and soon ended up losing.
Athletics
Indian athletes Annu Rani and Sarvesh Kushare failed to advance to the finals in their respective events.
Although having her best throw of 55.81 meters in the qualification round, due to failing short of the 62.00 meters qualification standard the Javelin thrower took her exit from the prestigious event. Fishing 15th in the game it is required to be within the top 12 overall to reach the final which eventually leads to her elimination.
High Jump
Sarvesh Kushare has also faced similar setbacks after being unable to clear 2.20 meters in three attempts. With falling short of the 2.29 meters qualification standard, the 29-year-old jumper finished second last in Group B, putting an end to his Olympic campaign.
On the other hand, Avinash Sable finished 11th with a time of 8:14.18 in the men’s 3,000m steeplechase final.
After back-to-back heartbreak, it’ll be interesting to see if the Indian can lead back at the Olympics in the upcoming event.
