The series of disappointments finally come to an end. On the day 13th of the Paris Olympics 2024 the Indian athletes prove their worth once again. After a hard defeat from Germany in the semis the Indian Hockey team bagged bronze twice in a row at the Olympics. Similarly, javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra didn’t disappoint the Indian fans, either winning silver or becoming the first Indian athlete to gain back-to-back medals in two consecutive years of the Olympics. Here is the highlight of the glorious event.
Hockey
The Indian hockey team also gives us a reason to smile again with a 2-1 victory over Spain securing bronze. With this medal, the team bid farewell to veteran goalkeeper PR Sreejesh in his final match.
Captain Harmanpreet Singh scored two massive match-winning goals one in the 30th minute and again in the 33rd minute from the penalty corner. The men in blue created history after winning back-to-back bronze medals in the 1968 and 1972 Olympics.
The Indian hockey team is now a proud holder of 13 Olympic medals including eight gold, one silver, and four bronze.
Athletics
Neeraj Chopra once again made the nation proud after ending the 13th day on a high note at Stade de France. Despite failing to win gold in a row the 26-year-old had a season-best throw of 89.45m securing silver and the 5th medal for India in the prestigious event.
The Tokyo Olympics gold medalist created history as the first independent track and field athlete of India to win two Olympic medals.
Chopra was dethroned by Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem who created Olympic history with his 92.97m throw breaking the previous record of 90.57m held by Andreas Thorkildsen of Denmark at Beijing 2008. After an unsuccessful attempt at first Nadeem crossed the 90 mark twice at the event.
On the other hand, India’s Jyothi Yarraji recorded a time of 13.17 seconds in the women’s 100m hurdles repechage round, however, she failed to reach the semis as only the top two rankers will go on to the next round.
Wrestling
Wrestler Aman Sehrawat faced a hard loss of 1-0 against top-seed Rei Higuchi In the men’s 57kg freestyle semifinal at the Paris Olympics.
Simultaneously, in the women’s category Anshu Malik was also defeated by Helen Louise Maroulis 7-2 in the women’s 57kg wrestling.
Golf
Aditi Ashok scored a 1-under 71 in the second round of the women’s golf tournament at the Paris Olympics 2024 improving her first-round score.
Diksha Dagar shot an even-par 72 making her drop seven places of the rank. The Indian duo currently ranks 14th with a combined total of 143.
