Paris Olympics 2024 has brought out numerous happy and exhilarating moments for India. However, the 8 days of the special event is undoubtedly the most disappointing one for India. Despite having hopes high for medals in the form of shooter Manu Bhaker and archer Deepika Kumari these talented athletes failed to live up to the expectations of the fans. Adding to the disappointment, boxer Nishant Dev got defeated in the quarterfinal of the men’s 71 kg category ending his campaign in the 2024 Olympics. Here are the crucial moments from the day 8th of this prestigious event.
Shooting
After gaining two back-to-back medals Indian shooter Manu Bhaker had a disappointing end with placing fourth in the women’s 25m pistol final with a score of 28 points. It is marked as her third final appearance at the Summer Games Bhaker is the only Indian shooter to reach three the final of the Olympics along with her contemporary Abhinav Bindra.
Meanwhile, Maheshwari Chauhan is ranked eighth in the women’s skeet qualification, and Raiza Dhillon is in 25th place with a score of 66.
Archery
India witnessed a heartbreak in archery as well after Olympian Deepika Kumari was defeated in 4-6 score to South Korean archer Nam Su-Hyeon in the women’s individual quarterfinals.
Bhajan Kaur also missed her opportunity to earn a medal after losing 5-6 in a shoot-off against Choirunisa Diananda of Indonesia.
Boxing
In boxing India’s Nishant Dev failed to bring home any medal after he faced a hard defeat to Mexico’s Marco Verde in the men’s 71 kg with 1-4 at the North Paris Arena.
Sailing
Initially ranked 11th after the third race, after six races Indian sailor Nethra Kumanan got dropped to 24th in the women’s dinghy standings.
Finished 28th in both race 4 and race 5, later with a slight improvement in race 6. The 26-year-old sailor needs to be among the top 10 boats by the end of the series which is kind of out of the expectations.
As for the men’s event, Vishnu Saravanan stands in 23rd position in the rank with 83 net points after six races.
Golf
Scored 1-over in the third round of the men’s golf tournament, India’s Shubhankar Sharma was dropped from T25 to T34.
On the other hand, Gaganjeet Bhullar reaches four spots up to T48 with a total score of 215 after shooting an even-par round.
