Pfizer-BioNTech asked for permission on Friday to use their COVID-19 vaccine on 12-15-year-olds in the United States.
The Pfizer-BioNTech told in a statement that in the coming days they intend to make similar requests of other regulatory authorities worldwide.
Their appeal to the Food and Drug Administration in the US comes after Phase 3 clinical trials of the Pfizer vaccine. The trial of the vaccine in 12-15-year-olds were 100% effective in averting the disease, as per the companies.
During March end, they published the outcomes of trials. These trials were carried out with 2,260 adolescents in the US who the companies said revealed “robust anti-body responses.”
The vaccine was “well tolerated with side effects generally consistent with those observed in participants 16 to 25 years of age,” the companies told on Friday.
The vaccine has now got the authorization for usage in people aged 16 and older. However it must be noted that it is used only in emergency cases.
Children are less prone to catch severe Covid. Therefore, vaccinating the children has been less of a preference than getting older people inoculated.
The Pfizer-BioNTechPfizer vaccine is based on novel mRNA technology. Pfizer is the first COVID-19 vaccine that got approved in the West late previous year.
