Let’s dig into the entire details of Nikitaa’s interview.
Nikitaa on her latest single and sexual identity
Born in India this America-based singer-songwriter has received a quite different upbringing in her childhood than a typical Indian household. Despite having distance from her Indian roots she never tried to forget it which is undoubtedly quite evident from the Bollywood fusion on her latest single ‘Pillow Prince’.
Nikitaa has beautifully blended R’n’B with Bollywood-inspired jazz which she thinks is “craft a melody that felt true to my influences and style but also felt hypnotic.”
On top of that, the Indian-origin musician has pointed out the issue of sexual identity especially for the queer community through her music.
She explained, “I’ve also spent a lifetime coming to terms with who I am – whether it’s certain disabilities I’ve always had, my queerness, or simply my identity in a world so defined by labels. I’ve found that building an unshakeable relationship with myself has been the key to a good life and that this is a lifelong pursuit. So that’s what I like to encourage my listeners to do through my art.”
In fact, her new single ‘Pillow Prince’ is purely dedicated to the queer community and is a message for people to embrace their sexuality. This step has not only increased her musical capabilities but also enhanced her quality as a human being as she shared, “The more vocal I’ve become, the more I’ve found myself surrounded by listeners who relate to that experience, share a similar identity, or find it super cathartic, because they never even knew there was a term for how they feel and how they see themselves.”
Coming in the music scene in 2018, Nikitaa gained an immense internet fan following through her singles Elevator, Boomerang, DITK, and Goddess. Apart from the English songs she also produced some amazing Hindi songs as well named ‘Tum Aur Main’ and ‘Apsara.’
