Shawn Mendes shares his current relationship status with ex-Camila Cabello. The couple ended their two-year-long romance in 2021 and later reconciled for a brief time in 2023. During a November 14 interview with Apple Music 1’s Zane Lowe, the singer revealed the reason Cabello has grown apart from his ex. Despite the ups and downs in life, the duo had always maintained an amicable relationship.

Shawn Mendes said he and Camila Cabello haven’t been the closest over the last couple of years
The “Why Why Why” singer told Lowe in the interview, “I think we haven’t been the closest over the last couple of years but I think we really know each other.”
The singer continued, “We spent a lot of time together, we really know each other’s hearts. Even when all the sound and all the noise is happening, we can kinda see through each other’s bullshit pretty easily. And it’s just nice to have that.”
Although they are not together he’s still grateful to have had Camila in his life when he did. In fact, the former Fifth Harmony member is someone who’s there to help him be more disciplined. As he noted, “That’s where I’m out of balance.”
“She would get very angry with me for not having a cheeseburger,” he said. “And it was great. It was huge. I needed that at the time in my life.”
This isn’t the first time the Grammy nominee has gone candid about the romance or breakup. Previously, during his appearance on the Jay Shetty Podcast in September, he shared some insight about his relationship with the ‘Havana’ singer.
“Honestly, I think Camila and I have just done the best job at preserving our private little fire of love for each other,” Shawn noted, “because no matter how strong mentally you are when there are millions of people commenting on it, it’s so hard not to be affected by it and to be swayed by it and to be inspired by it.”
In fact, at that time he added they exchanged messages from time to time adding, “As long as we’re good, all the noise is just noise.”
“We deeply respect each other,” he said of his ex. “I’m just lucky she’s an amazing human being and she’s incredibly understanding and thoughtful and caring.”
