Acclaimed director Shoojit Sircar finally addressed the reason for calling off making one of the ambitious projects, the biopic of legendary Indian singer Kishore Kumar. The filmmaker who is promoting his upcoming movie I Want to Talk, with Abhishek Bachchan revealed after he got to know that director Anurag Basu is making the same project he decided to quit the film.
Sircar has gained immense recognition for his poignant movies like Yahaan (2005), Piku (2015), Madras Cafe (2013), and Sardar Udham (2021). Therefore, it’s indeed disappointing for some cinephiles to get to know about this news. Let’s check out what Sircar has said.
Shoojit Sircar said he didn’t think there was any point in two people doing the same thing
During an interview with Scroll, the National Award winner noted of the shelved project, “I had been working on a script on the life of Kishore Kumar. I did almost three to four years of research with the family, but there were a couple of other scripts being worked on at the same time, including by Anurag Basu.”
He also continued, “I had developed a draft, but when I learnt about Anurag, I didn’t think there was any point in two people doing the same thing. So that went on ice. Once you lose the momentum, it’s a big challenge to go back to it.”
Although Sircar has backed off from the movie, Basu is still continuing to hunt for the actor who could play the singing legend. Recently news even stated that superstar Amir Khan is taking on the role of the late icon.
Aamir Khan on the Kishore Kumar biopic
A report in Pinkvilla noted that Khan is the next choice for the late singer’s role.
A close source of the production noted, “The Kishore Kumar biopic is a subject close to the heart of Anurag Basu and Bhushan Kumar. Aamir is also a big admirer of Kishore Kumar and loved the vision that Basu has. The filmmaker has treated it very differently, and that’s what has fascinated Aamir the most.”
For now, Mr. Perfectionist is busy with the production of Sitaare Zameen Par, as well as the news of the second installment of his 2008 blockbuster Ghajini is also in talk of the town.
