Sophie Turner is clearing the air about her comment on being a single mother. The Game of Thrones star who shares daughters Willa, 4, and Delphine, 2, with ex-husband Joe Jonas, previously shared a post that says it’s “a struggle being a single mother.” However, she now explained that the post wasn’t directed to herself. On September 30, Turner shared an Instagram story to address the comments, adding has been widely misquoted. In fact, the post is about the actress’s character on the upcoming TV series Joan which is about single mom and infamous jewel thief Joan Hannington. Sophie Turner said she’d been widely misquoted today
The 28-year-old penned the Instagram story, “I have been widely misquoted today in publications where I have ‘stated’ that ‘it’s such a struggle being a single mother,’ I’d like to clarify that I was talking about the character of Joan that I play and was not referring to myself.”
The mother-of-two also added that the original quote “is obvious from the original interview in the Sunday Times Culture section,” which was published September 29.
Although she did express gratitude for the support she has gotten in raising her two daughters.
“I am very fortunate personally to have a lot of help around me, which is not the case for a lot of people,” the actress added. “I applaud all single mothers doing it alone.”
As for the original interview with The Sunday Times, the X-Men alum opened up about the connection she has with Joan as a mother.
“If I hadn’t been a mother, I don’t know if I would have been able to bring the same energy that I did into it,” Turner noted of her character. “It’s such a struggle being a single mother. Joan doesn’t go about it in the best way … but it is amazing to see her really fighting for her daughter.”
The actress who recently finalized divorce with the Jonas Brothers member continues, “It’s also really important for kids to see just how hard parents work for them.”
Moreover, Turned also revealed how the character has created an impact on her life, noting, “Joan changed me quite a lot. From utter desperation comes so much will and ambition. The series came around at a time in my life where I had to be ambitious and I had to have such strong will and fight against the forces. She gave me a lot of strength.”
Joe, Sophie’s estranged ex-husband filed for divorce in September. 2023 after which the couple has gone through a messy custody battle until they came to an agreement.
Sophie is currently dating British dating real estate developer Peregrine Pearson, as for Joe, he parted ways with model Stormi Bree whom the 35-year-old has been seeing after parting ways with Sophie.
