Life and Journey of Sunflower Tape Machine
Based in Chennai the musician’s journey is quite extraordinary. After getting admitted to a university to study film he dropped out one month later. Despite not having any higher education he made music his ultimate goal. He took up music as a full-time profession after facing lots of obstacles and objections. However, with his incredible talent and unique style, he has beaten all odds.
With his singles ’Sophomore Sweetheart’ (2021) and ‘Internet Friends’ (2022), most recently ‘Rosemary’(2023).
Sharing his experience of the making process of ‘Rosemary’ he told Rolling Stone India that time, “One of the biggest aspects of intimacy is familiarity and that is exactly what I’ve tried to capture with the sonics of ‘Rosemary.’ I’ve tried to make it the most intimate experience possible for the listener, rather than it being just another song. It merges traditional folk elements with my inclination for experimenting with vocals and how they are perceived.”
Sunflower Tape Machine also shared his musical journey revealing how he had to sacrifice his education to become a full-time musician.
The singer said, “I never went to university and music was all I did full time, the number of unproductive hours filled my mind with ‘what if this doesn’t work out’ thoughts. This forced me to join a university to study film, but I dropped out one month later. It took me a while, but I finally realized it was okay to take some time off because it was the music that mattered the most. Ever since I’ve been working on a larger body of work.”
Needless to say, his hard work has started to pay off well as he featured on over 44,000 organic pieces throughout his music career and also collaborated with a talented 5-piece band. His love for folk music is perfectly depicted in his songs and lyrics.
His future endeavors will be extremely exciting to witness for indie music lovers.
