HBO’s new drama series ‘The Idol’ is unexpectedly coming to an end one week earlier. Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye who is also the co-creator of the show announced the news via a tweet. Moreover, on Monday, TV Line announced that the series will no longer need six episodes as Euphoria creator Sam Levinson joined the team. So the story changed drastically. Meanwhile, the show has had a lot of controversies since the first episode aired.

Tesfaye confirmed the news via tweet while sharing the promo of episode 5 which will air this Sunday writing, “One more episode.”
The series is about the story of Tedros (Tesfaye), a charismatic cult leader who meets a young up-and-coming pop singer Jocelyn (Lily-Rose Depp), and will stop at nothing to make her famous.
Moreover, the series has received a lot of negative comments from the critics. Rolling Stone said of the first episode that the project had gone “wildly, disgustingly off the rails.” Meanwhile, Vulture criticized the third episode as “bizarrely edited” and “hackily written.”
On top of that, Tesfaye opened up about his thoughts on the criticism in an interview with Variety. He said, “It’s almost educational, that this is what comes with being incredibly famous. You’re surrounded by people who you’re not sure what their true intentions are, even if it seems like they’re good. You just never know. But of course, I’ve been very fortunate to have people around me that I’ve known almost my entire life, which is important, and is a gift.”
He also criticized the Rolling Stone article on Vanity Fair saying he thought it “was ridiculous,” adding, “I wanted to give a ridiculous response to it.”
