Actress Gena Rowlands who is best known for her role in the romantic drama film ‘The Notebook’ passed away at her California home on Aug. 14. TMZ first affirmed the news of her demise. The actress left the world at 96 years old. Moreover, the forum also briefed that Rowlands’ husband, Robert Forrest, and daughter, Alexandra Cassavetes, were by her side at the dark hour.
As per the report, her son The Notebook director Nick Cassavetes was also at her house throughout the week. The late actress shared daughters Alexandra and Zoe, as well as son, Nick with her first husband John Cassavetes, who died in 1989. She later married Robert in 2012. Gena Rowlands was battling with Alzheimer
Weeks before the devastating news came out Nick revealed his mom was battling Alzheimer’s disease. Interestingly it was the same condition Rowlands’s The Notebook character, the older version of Allie, dealt with.
Nick talked to Entertainment Weekly about his mom’s condition.
The director added, “I got my mom to play older Allie, and we spent a lot of time talking about Alzheimer’s and wanting to be authentic with it, and now, for the last five years, she’s had Alzheimer’s. She’s in full dementia. And it’s so crazy — we lived it, she acted it, and now it’s on us.”

The actress had a glorious career of seven decades in film, stage, and television. She entered into the world of entertainment through the early 1950s Broadway in The Seven Year Itch.
In 1958 the actress got a grand entry through the film named The High Cost of Loving. However, she came into the limelight in 1959 after appearing in the Western series Laramie, alongside her husband John Cassavetes.
In the later stages of her career, she became notable among young audiences for playing the role of the old version of Allie, Rachel McAdams’s character in the iconic romantic film ‘The Notebook’.
Later on, she teamed up with Cassavetes on ten films, including A Woman Under the Influence (1974) and Gloria (1980), both of these films earned her Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.
The veteran actress gained countless accolades in her prolonged career, including four Emmy Awards and two Golden Globe Awards. On top of that, she also received an Honorary Academy Award for her contribution and recognition of unique characters on celluloid.
