You can’t shut up about this exciting news! The Princess Diaries 3 is officially on the floor. On October 4, Adele Lim confirmed the news by announcing to direct the sequel. Lim is notable for her work as a screenwriter in the popular romcom Crazy Rich Asians.
The first installment of the franchise first had its cinematic entry in 2001, marking the film debut of Anne Hathaway who played the role of an awkward teen who by the turn of events became Princess Mia Thermopolis. Apart from Hathaway, the Disney comedy also features Julie Andrews as Queen Clarisse Renaldi. The movie became a huge success leading to the sequel The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement. In the 2004 sequel, Chris Pine joined the cast as the love interest of Anne which is also his first onscreen role.
Let’s check out the complete details about the upcoming sequel.
Adele Lim released a statement announcing his entry in the Princess Diaries 3
Lim noted in the statement, “As a diehard fan of the original Princess Diaries, I’m beyond excited to be a part of bringing the third iteration of this beloved franchise to life. We look forward to celebrating its core tenants of female power, joy, and mentorship with audiences worldwide.”
The recent development of the movie isn’t surprising since the 2022 casting for the third installment is reported to have taken place. Variety even reports the film will be a continuation of the franchise apart from just a reboot.
Moreover, Hathaway also hinted at her involvement with the third venture.
“We’re in a good place,” she said in an interview in April, “That’s all I can say. There’s nothing to announce yet. But we’re in a good place.”
Not only that, the Oscar winner also justified the long delay for the upcoming project.
The 41-year-old told Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live, “We don’t want to do it unless it’s perfect, because we love it just as much as you guys love it. It’s as important to us as it is to you and we don’t want to deliver anything until it’s ready. But we’re working on it.”
Alongwith the lead star actress Mandy Moore, who played mean girl Lana Thomas in the first movie showcases the interest of acting in the role again.
In July of this year the actress who was pregnant at that time wrote on her Instagram, “And just like that, #ThePrincessDiaries turns a year older and a year sweeter! What a gift. And as I look through old photos, which brings back old memories, I realize how much I like the number 3.”
