Trevor Noah thanked the crowd at his show
On December 8, during the final episode of The Daily Show, the 38-year-old comedian shared a thoughtful speech.
“I’m grateful to you, every single one of you. I’m so grateful. I remember when we started the show, we couldn’t get enough people to fill an audience.”
He, later on, joked about the people who hate his show but it still gets good ratings.
Noah later pivots his speech in an emotional turn. “This is random, for some, but a special shout-out to Black women. I’ve often been credited with having these grand ideas. People are like, ‘Trevor, you’re so smart.’ I’m like, ‘Who do you think teaches me? Who do you think has shaped me, nourished me, and formed me?'”- he said.
He also gives a special shout-out to his mother, his aunt, the “Black women in my life.”
The show host continued while hardly trying to stop his tears, “I always tell people, if you truly want to learn about America, talk to Black women. Unlike everybody else, Black women can’t afford to f–k around and find out.”
He then continued by mentioning the past show hosts Roxane Gay and Tarana Burke. “When things go bad, Black people know that it gets worse for them. Black women, in particular, they know what s–t is, genuinely. People will always be shocked like, ‘Why do Black women turn out the way they do in America?’ Because they know what happens if things do not go the way it should.”
Noah then finished his speech by saying, “This has been an honor. Thank you.”
