Tumbbad 2 is officially announced! This highly acclaimed film’s star and producer Sohum Shah confirm the sequel amid the re-release of the first installment six years after in the theatres. On 14th September Shah took his Instagram to share this exciting news with the fans.
Directed by Rahi Anil Barve, this spine-chilling horror thriller has conquered the hearts of audiences from all around the world and even got hailed by fans as one of the greatest Indian films of this century. Moreover, it also became the first Indian film to be screened at the 75th Venice International Film Festival. Needless to say, the expectations are quite high for the sequel.

On 14 September Sohum Shah confirmed the sequel via his official Instagram while writing, “Pralay, Pralay phir aayega,” seemingly anticipating a darker and more larger-scale sequel.
In the video clip of the sequel Vinayak and his son Pandurang feature with a voiceover saying, “Samay ka pahiya gol hai, jo beet gaya woh fir laut ke aayega…darwaaza bhi ek baar phir khulega (Time moves in circles. What happened in the past will return again… The door will reopen).”
This news has made the fans over the moon since the re-release of the first installment has witnessed immense success.
Tumbbad has overthrown the re-release record of blockbuster films like Sholay,’ ‘Mughal-e-Azam,’ and ‘Rockstar’ in terms of opening day collections.
The plot of Tumbbad
The movie revolves around a character Vinayak Rao, portrayed by Sohum Shah, who witnessed a shocking truth about the legend of their village Tumbbad. The protagonist soon develops immense greed and obsession while he finds a way of getting a mythical treasure guarded by the evil entity Hastar.
Alongside his young son on an ominous night, the duo navigates through a perilous journey that can end with a reward or a life-threatening curse.
Written by Mitesh Shah, Prasad, Barve, and Gandhi, the film was produced by Aanand L Rai, Mukesh Shah, and Amita Shah along with its protagonist Sohum Shah.

Shah’s PR team shared a statement where he noted, “Tumbbad has been a special journey and a labor of love for us, and to see the love it continues to receive is overwhelming and only ratifies our belief and ethos of Sohum Shah Films, that content is king.”
The actor-producer continues, “With Tumbbad 2, we want to push the cinematic experience and boundaries even further. Tumbbad 2 will take audiences deeper into the world we’ve created, with bigger twists and a more intense exploration of what happens when greed knows no limits.”
