Cristiano Ronaldo achieved a new milestone in his career. UEFA is all set to honor this legendary Portuguese footballer for being the top goal scorer in the UEFA Champions League. Over the course of more than 18 years, Ronaldo’s achievements in Europe’s premier club competition are going to be felicitated at the UEFA Champions League 36-team league phase draw ceremony. UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin will honor the football with this special award at the prestigious event. This glorious ceremony will honor his extraordinary legacy in the prestigious competition. The former forward of Portugal, Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus has scored a whopping 140 Champions League goals in mere 183 appearances. Ronaldo is only 11 goals away from Lionel Messi and 46 ahead of Robert Lewandowski who is ranked on the third-placed of the scoring charts.
Looking at his milestone the footballer has finished seven different Champions League seasons as a leading scorer more than any other player. Moreover, his eight-goal haul in Manchester United 2007/08 and 15 marvelous goals made Real Madrid regain their third straight title in 2017/18.
He has considered the competition once with Manchester United and four times with Real Madrid which hailed him as the first five-time winner in the competition’s history since 1992.
Ronaldo is the single player to date to score in the three different UEFA Champions League finals respectively in 2008, 2014, and 2017.
UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin also expressed his admiration for the player ahead of felicitating him.
Ceferin shared, “Over more than two decades, he has continuously evolved and refined his game while preserving a youthful passion for scoring and celebrating goals. Needless to say, his legacy is irreplaceable. With a career spanning over three long decades, Ronaldo has won 33 trophies in his career, including seven league titles, such as five UEFA Champions Leagues, the UEFA Nations League, and the UEFA European Championship.
On top of that, he also made 183 appearances in his entire career which includes goals 140 and assists 42 in the Champions League. He also has 30 appearances in the European Championship with 8 assists and 14 goals. As for his international career, among his 212 appearances, he scored 130 international goals.
The event will take place on Thursday 29 August at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco.
