Kangana Ranaut’s film Emergency is having immense difficulty for a theatrical release. Although the e examining committee of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had eventually passed the film for a ‘UA’ certification, some conditions had been put forward. The CBFC has put on the condition that the filmmakers have to create three cuts and need to mention the factual sources for controversial historical statements. As for the controversial statement attributed to US President Richard Nixon on his disparaging references to Indian women and another to Winston Churchill on Indians “breeding like rabbits.” Let’s check out the other details the film needs to change ahead of its release.

Things going to be modified in Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency

The solo directorial venture of Kangana Ranaut listing has been listed for 10 “excisions/insertions/modifications” required by the examining committee for ‘UA’ certification. A ‘UA’ certification means the film is appropriate to watch with parental supervision. On August 8, Sikh organizations, including the Akal Takht and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee started demanding a ban on the film which was initially set to release on September 6.

As for the scenes, the committee suggested that the filmmakers delete or replace the visuals portraying Pakistani soldiers attacking Bangladeshi refugees, particularly a scene where a soldier smashes an infant’s head and also beheads three women.

Moreover, creators were asked to replace the scene where someone in a crowd was seen cursing the death of a leader in the film. Additionally, the committee advised the family’s surname to be changed, which is mentioned in a line.

The filmmakers received an email stating that the movie had been granted certification on August 29 suggesting a smooth release. However, due to not issuing the official certificate, the makers now approached the Bombay High Court.

In court, the CBFC’s lawyer revealed that the examining committee has not yet hosted the sitting review of the filmmakers’ August 14 response. Therefore, a certificate could not have been issued without proper evaluation.

As for now, the court has ordered the Board to make a decision about the certification by September 18.

Kangana Ranaut on the movie’s postpone

On Friday, September 6 which was supposed to be the initial release date of the movie, Ranaut expressed her disappointment over the continuous obstacles to the film’s release.

The four-time National Award winner wrote, “With a heavy heart, I announce that my directorial Emergency has been postponed. We are still waiting for the certification from the censor board. The new release date will be announced soon. Thanks for your understanding and patience.”

Apart from the Queen alum the movie also features Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Mahima Choudhary, and the late Satish Kaushik in key roles.
