During The promotion for the release of the highly anticipated sequel to Beetlejuice the 1988 cult classic film by Tim Burton the actress sat down in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar’s August Performance issue where she looked back at the relationships failures she had in her 30s. The 52-year- old told the outlet, “In my 30s, I had two disastrous relationships that were — they weren’t wrong, but this was before you would ever think to Google someone, When I look back, I’m like, ‘What the hell was I thinking?’ I was dating the type of person who only lets you know a few weeks in that they’re in a relationship with someone else. And you’re just like, ‘What the f**k?’”
For now Ryder has happily been with her boyfriend, Scott Mackinlay Hahn who is the founder of the sustainable organic cotton company Loomstate for 14 long years.
As for the plot of her upcoming film it revolves around a middle-aged mother of one, Lydia who uses her ability to see and speak to the dead as a host of a television show called Ghost House. Although the ghost-rider is dating her slimy manager, Rory (played by The Leftovers’ Justin Theroux) , she is not in love with him. Meanwhile, her Her teenage daughter, Astrid (Jenna Ortega) despises her as she believes her mother’s special ability is a cheap gimmick as she can’t contact her deceased father, who tragically died in a fishing accident.
Moreover, reflecting on those early days of her career, the Stranger Things star says she feels “incredibly lucky” to not feel traumatized by her past unlike her character.
“I feel incredibly lucky to have been able to live this life — however intense and overwhelming it got, it’s NOTHING compared to what it is now with the internet and social media,” she added. “I just find myself feeling tremendous empathy toward people who have sacrificed so much.”
The movie’s press release noted, “ After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will storm in the theaters nationwide on Sept. 6.
