In a newly released clip from his May interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show, the former One Direction alum revealed how after becoming father to his and 29-year-old model Gigi Hadid’s daughter, Khai, he had the courage to make his first-ever solo appearance on a talk show and being candid with host Clarkson. Zayn Malik said he wants to set example for his kid
The 31-year-old singer told Clarkson, “I don’t think I would have been able to do this, like, three years ago.”
While explaining his complexities with the fame and publicity he noted, “The fame side of things never appealed to me. It wasn’t something I was chasing it for. I was just trying to create art, so that was something that came secondary, and I had to learn to adjust to it.”
The “Dusk Till Dawn” singer also admitted after becoming a dad he has pushed himself to be a better role model for his daughter.
“When you have kids, you have to set an example,” Zayn said. “I’ve been able to step up and be a man or woman of your word.”
Moreover, he also believes fatherhood has motivated him to take on challenges which he might have avoided previously, sharing, “This is for her, not for me.”
The singer also shared some adorable details about the 3-year-old’s musical talents.
The proud father gushes, “She’s got a real good retention for lyrics at the minute, and she can remember all the lyrics to all the songs she listens to.” He also expresses his enjoyment of witnessing this will in his daughter, calling it “a beautiful thing to see.”
Malik and Hadid had been in an on-again-off-again relationship for five years till late 2021. After the singer was accused of striking Hadid’s mother, Yolanda Hadid. The former couple currently share joint custody of Khai and now in amicable terms. As for the love of the duo,Hadid is now dating actor-director Bradley Cooper.
According to a source of Entertainment Tonight, the singer and the supermodel’s “relationship is in a much healthier spot than it once was” as “they are both set on providing their baby girl with the most stable and normal upbringing and life that they possibly can.”
