Ellen DeGeneres finally addressed the allegations of a toxic workplace at her famous The Ellen DeGeneres Show, onstage. According to Rolling Stone, the comedian in her recent stand-up act talked about the allegations swirling around the show in 2020. At that time DeGeneres even issued an on-air apology and two years later, ended her show after 19 seasons. Let’s check out the complete details of this story.
Ellen DeGeneres said she got kicked out of show business
As per the Rolling Stone, the 66-year-old said onstage, “I got kicked out of show business. There’s no mean people in show business, The ‘be kind’ girl wasn’t kind. I became this one-dimensional character who gave stuff away and danced up steps.”
Moreover, she also questioned, “Do you know how hard it is to dance up steps? Would a mean person dance up steps? Had I ended my show by saying, ‘Go f**k yourself,’ people would’ve been pleasantly surprised.”
DeGeneres shared that the incident was “such a toll on my ego and my self-esteem.”
“There’s such extremes in this business, people either love you and idolize you or they hate you, and those people somehow are louder,” she continues.
Additionally, Rolling Stone, also reported that while performing on Wednesday’s The Largo in Los Angeles, DeGeneres said, “I used to say that I didn’t care what other people thought of me and I realized…I said that at the height of my popularity. It is such a waste of time to worry about what other people think.”
On top of that, during a post-show Q&A, she revealed to be in a dark place during her show’s drama and ending.
According to People, she shared that she has not taken her own advice during her “tough time,” which she classified as “a funk, after revealing “It’s hard to dance when you’re crying.”
As per the outlet she also said, “I’m making jokes about what happened to me, but it was devastating, really. I just hated the way the show ended. I love that show so much and I just hated that the last time people would see me is that way.”
Ellen ended her successful show which ran for nineteen long seasons just two years after the allegations were made. At the time a source of Entertainment Tonight revealed, “Ellen’s last show was emotional for her. It feels like the end of an era, but she is ready for the next chapter of her life. It feels bittersweet.”
