Freedom at Midnight: The Nikkhil Advani directorial shed light on partition in 2nd teaser

Get ready to take a trip back to history as SonyLiv’s upcoming series Freedom at Midnight is all set to grace your screen. The series which is based on the true events of the momentum days of India’s history included the emotional and political turmoil of the country’s independence in 1947. On October 4, the makers of the series officially unveiled the second teaser of the series.  In this new teaser, the significant period of India’s partition has been depicted. The details of the second teaser of Freedom at Midnight

The teaser started back in 1920 when Sarojini Naidu gave a speech about getting the support of the members of the Indian National Congress as well as the common foe for the non-cooperative movement. However, amid the cheering of Mahatma Gandhi’s name, Muhammad Ali Jinnah started to oppose the idea. After an argument with Gandhi ji, Jinnah was seen to resign from the INR in order to establish a party for his own community. 

As the trailer progresses it is shown how the leader’s demand of a new nation for the Muslims in India which we all can assume is referring to the partition of India after its freedom .

Backed by Monisha Advani and Madhu Bhojwani Emmay Entertainment in association with StudioNext, the show is acclaimed filmmaker Nikkhil Advani will be serving as both the showrunner and director. Based on Dominique Lapierre and Larry Collins’s book of the same name, the script of the series is written by Abhinandan Gupta, Adwitiya Kareng Das, Gundeep Kaur, Divya Nidhi Sharma, Revanta Sarabhai, and Ethan Taylor.

Moreover, it also includes a phenomenal star cast which features, Sidhant Gupta as Jawaharlal Nehru, Chirag Vohra as Mahatma Gandhi, Richard Teverson as Cyril Radcliffe, Rajendra Chawla as Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Ira Dubey as Fatima Jinnah, Malishka Mendonsa as Sarojini Naidu, Rajesh Kumar as Liaquat Ali Khan, Arif Zakaria as Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Alistair Finlay as Archibald Wavell, Andrew Cullum as Clement Attlee, KC Shankar as VP Menon, Luke McGibney as Lord Louis Mountbatten, Cordelia Bugeja as Lady Edwina Mountbatten.

Talking about the series, Advani noted in an interview, “Freedom at Midnight is a powerful look at one of India’s most important moments in history. The show is based on careful research and shows the emotional and political chaos of the time. It gives a deep look at key historical figures, with each character well-developed, allowing the actors to truly step into their roles.”

The Kal Ho Naa Ho director added, “The story isn’t just about politics but also explores the human experiences, emotions, and challenges that shaped an era and left a lasting impact on the nation.”

As per the sources, the show will start streaming on SonyLiv this November.
