Prince Philip from Britian passes away on Friday at the age of 99 at Winsor Castle. He was the husband of Queen Elizabeth who assisted to modernize the monarchy and steer the British royal family through repeated crises during seven decades of service.
“It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh,” the palace said in a statement.
“His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle. Further announcements will be made in due course. The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss.”
Speaking about the Prince Philip, he was a greek prince who got married to Elizabeth in 1947. The prince played a major role in helping the monarchy to adapt itself with the changing world in the potst- World War Two Period. He was the one key figure whom the queen trusted behind the walls of Buckingham.
“He has, quite simply, been my strength and stay all these years,” Elizabeth, 94, spoke in a rare personal tribute to Philip in a speech indicating their 50th wedding anniversary in 1997.
“I, and his whole family, and this and many other countries, owe him a debt greater than he would ever claim, or we shall ever know.”
Britain’s heraldic authority- College of Arms stated that there would be no state funeral or lying-in-state, reflecting Philip’s well-known aversion to creating a fuss and COVID-19 restrictions in England.
“His Royal Highness’s body will lie at rest in Windsor Castle ahead of the funeral in St George’s Chapel. This is in line with custom and with His Royal Highness’s wishes,” it declared in a statement.
