Hair is what describes an individual’s personality and style. Hair loss troubles are very common and often cause worry and affect self-esteem, especially in women.

Moving on… here are some tips for controlling excessive hair loss and what causes it.

Causes of hair loss

Nutritional Deficiencies

It is also a possibility that essential nutrients might be missing from your diets such as iron, copper, zinc and proteins. Another reason can be the lack of Vitamin D.

Hormonal Imbalance

Many women above the age of 30 can experience hormonal imbalance that causes hair loss.

This is usually caused by excessive dihydrotestosterone (DHT) conversion.

Apart from estrogen female body also produces other hormones – testosterone and DHEA.

After a certain age, they may start to convert these androgens to DHT.

Thyroid Issues

The hair growth cycle can change if the thyroid hormone is produced excessively or insufficiently.

Some symptoms that you will notice if you have thyroid are – hair loss, weight gain/loss, sensitivity to cold or heat and changes in the heart.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)

Women suffering from this problem have a hormonal imbalance which creates higher levels of androgens than normal.

This causes the hair on the head to grow thinner while the hair grows on the face and body.

Stress

Extreme stress can cause sudden hair loss which could last for several months.

Minimizing stress through exercise, meditation yoga and massages will reduce your chances of experiencing hair loss.

There can be other reasons behind hair loss such as:

  • Hairstyling products
  • Medical conditions like – Telogen effluvium, Androgenetic alopecia, Alopecia areata, ageing and genetics
  • Birth Control Pills
