During the fifth T20I International held on March 20, 2021 between India and England at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, India, there was a 3-2 series win for India.
India had a massive score of 224-2. Despite of various efforts put in by Dawid Malan (who scored 68 off 46 balls) and Jos Buttler (who scored 52 off 34 ball) still England failed to make it through the match and collapsed to 188-8 at the end.
On the other hand India with the best batsmen, were aggressive on the field. Opening innings were played by Rohit Sharma (64 off 34) and Virat Kohli (80 off 52). It was because of their superb partnership that they were able to put on 94.
Then came the partnership of Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya. They scored 32 off 17 and 39 off 17 respectively. The innings came to an end with Chris Jordan making a boundary catch.
Later in the match Jason Roy was clean bowled by Bhuvaneshwar Kumar just when he came to bat. In the 13th over, Bhuvaneshwar again returned and claimed a key wicket of Buttler, changing the game drastically and in the favour of team India.
Buttler ‘s departure was a big blow for team England and slowly led to it ‘s defeat.
Furthermore, with a ridiculous one – handed boundary catch Jordan took his revenge on Suryakumar.
Team England had the worst possible start as Roy departed at the very second ball of the innings by Bhuvaneshwer, when Roy went for a big swing and landed in a mid – wicket boundary.
Meanwhile, Buttler smashed three of his four sixeson balls thrown by Rahul Chahar. He along with Malan, in their partnership fired 62 from powerplay.
When Jonny Bairstow(17), Morgan(1) and Ben Stokes(4) were dismissed cheaply, the required rate increased drastically. This was seen to be the biggest turning point in the game and led to their defeat.
