James Cameron the director of the legendary film shared his thoughts on the Titanic debate. There is a long debate in the film with the fans about whether Jack (Played by Leonardo DiCaprio) survived if he climbed up on the lifeboat. Cameron comeback to the director chair after thirteen years with his film Avatar: The Way of Water. The film already gets a lot of recognition and positive response from fans and critics. On a February 2, clip of Good Morning America, the director shared his view.
James Cameron said Jack just might’ve made it until the lifeboat got there
In the climax of the movie, Jack died in the icy water while his lover Rose played by Kate Wlisnet survived being on a lifeboat. On the clip of Good Morning America, the 68-year-old said, “He just might’ve made it until the lifeboat got there. Jack might’ve lived, but there’s a lot of variables.”
He added, “I think his thought process was, ‘I’m not going to one thing to jeopardize her and that’s 100 percent a character.'”
However, this isn’t the first time the Academy winner admitted the character might have survived and his death is “all kind of silly”. In A 2017, interview with Vanity Fair, The Terminator director said although his death is kinda silly there is a silver lining in the debate.
He noted, “It does show that the film was effective in making Jack so endearing to the audience that it hurts them to see him die. Had he lived, the ending of the film would have been meaningless…The film is about death and separation; he had to die. So, whether it was that, or whether a smoke stack fell on him, he was going down.”
