Rooney Mara and Joaquin Phoenix are all set to embrace parenthood again. On Friday, the actress arrived at the 74th Berlinale International Film Festival with her growing baby bump while posing for pictures on the carpet. The actress graced the carpet with her stunning floor-length black gown which subtly showed off her bump. Mara’s film La Cocina was also premiered at the prestigious film festival. However, none of the actors has publicly commented on the good news. Also there isn’t revelation about the gender of the unborn.
Rooney and Joaquin is already a parent of a baby boy
The 38-year-old actress and the 49-year-old actor are already a parent to a baby boy named River whom they welcomed in 2020. The toddler was named after Joaquin’s late brother River Phoenix, who died from an overdose at the age of 23 in 1993.
At that time, Russian filmmaker Victor Kossakovsky unveiled the name of the couple’s newborn at the Zurich Film Festival in September 2020. He said, “He just got a baby, by the way, a beautiful son called River.”
The would-be second time parents first met at the set of 2013 movie Her, directed by Spike Jonze. Joaquin, who also wrote the film, played the role of a writer who falls for Samantha, an artificial intelligence Operating System voiced by Scarlett Johansson, which also caused his relationship with Catherine, played by Mara, to come to an end.
In a 2019 interview with Vanity Fair, the Joker star revealed how he thought his now-fiancee despised him on the set of the 2013 film. “She’s the only girl I ever looked up on the internet,” he says of Rooney. “We were just friends, email friends. I’d never done that. Never looked up a girl online.”
After being friends for years, the couple first started dating in 2016 while working on Mary Magdalene together. Later on, they also confirmed their relationship on the red carpet of the 70th annual Cannes Film Festival in May 2017 where they appeared holding hands.
Two years later the Us Weekly reported the pair are engaged. A year later they welcomed their first bundle of joy.
Rooney and Joaquin also appeared together at the 2020 Academy Awards, where Joaquin won Best Lead Actor for Joker. And also quarantined together during the COVID-19 pandemic following the year at their home in Los Angeles.
