Apple today announced to invest $1 billion to build a new campus for 3000 employees, near Raleigh, North Carolina.
This plan would generate new jobs across the country over the next five years.
Employees here will be working on technology including software engineering and machine learning. The company did not give a timeline for when the campus will be complete.
A $100 million fund will also be established by the company. It will support schools and community initiatives across the state.
Moreover, Apple expects to invest $110 million in infrastructure such as broadband, roads and schools throughout the 80 counties.
The campus will be located near North Carolina State University, Duke University and the University of North Carolina. It is so-called the Research Triangle area.
CEO of Apple, Tim Cook said in a statement “At this moment of recovery and rebuilding, Apple is doubling down on our commitment to US innovation and manufacturing with a generational investment reaching communities across all 50 states,”.
“We’re creating jobs in cutting-edge fields — from 5G to silicon engineering to artificial intelligence — investing in the next generation of innovative new businesses, and in all our work, building toward a greener and more equitable future.” He added.
Apple wants to expand its headquarters in different parts of the world. So, it came up with the idea of establishing a campus in North Carolina.
Its campus in Austin, Texas is yet to open next year. It will be expanding in other cities, including Boulder, Colorado and Boston, Massachusetts.
The company plans to make new investments of more than $430 billion and add 20,000 new jobs across the country, over the next five years.
In recent years, the tech giant has started to expand outside of Silicon Valley. It joins other companies that are expanding outside the Bay Area.
It is planning to employ 5,000 people in San Diego, about 3,000 in Culver City in Los Angeles and 700 Boulder and Colorado, by 2026.
