Tribal clashes between the Arabs and Non-Arabs have led to the killings of at least 40 people. This incident that happened in Sudan’s western Darfur region has wounded 60 others also.
Salah Saleh, a physician and former medical director at the city’s main hospital reported the death of two people. The violence between the Arab Rizeigat tribe and the Masalit in Genena, the provincial capital of West Darfur province, led to the death of two people.
As per U.N. humanitarian affairs agency, It is reported that unknown well-armed men on Saturday shot two people from the Masalit,
It is known that the two tribes have mobilized forces and gunfire could still be discovered in the capital of West Darfur province.
Adam Regal a person from a local organization who is assisting in operating refugee camps in Darfur, shared a video recording flames and thick clouds of black smoke. On Monday, He shared that a shell hit a camp for displaced people in Genena. That shell kindled a fire that burned numerous houses.
He also expressed, “The situation is very difficult and grave,”.
Dr. Ibrahim who is a member of the committer told the death toll could be much bigger because many were unable to arrive at the hospital.
The U.N. reported all humanitarian activities were discontinued as roads nearby the southern portion of Genena were blocked.
A large number of people left their roofs in Hay al-Jabal and al-Jamarik neighborhoods in Genena. They got cover in nearby mosques and public buildings, the U.N. agency reported.
Governor of West Darfur, Mohammed Abdalla al-Duma said in a report that officials were exercising “necessary measures” without elaborating. He urged residents in Genena to stay alert and continue to stay at home till security forces check the condition.
Clashes like these have posed a challenge to attempts by Sudan’s transitional government to end decades-long rebellions in areas like Darfur.
