Steve Burns is the famous host of Nickelodeon’s children’s series the Blue’s Clue. The series aired on television from 8th September 1996 to 6 August 2006. It gained a lot of popularity among children. However, in 2002, the main star of the show Steve Burns left the show. The viewers were told that his character is going to college. Well after decades of speculation, Burns has finally opened up about his sudden exit in a recent interview with Variety.
Steve Burns revealed going through severe depression during the show
On November 16, in an interview with Variety magazine, the famous television host opened up about the reason for his exit. He is revealed to suffer from severe depression so it’s hard to do something utterly joyful on screen. “I didn’t know it yet, but I was the happiest depressed person in North America. I was struggling with severe clinical depression the whole time I was on that show. It was my job to be utterly and completely full of joy and wonder at all times, and that became impossible.”- the 30-year-old said.
Later on, Steve added, “I was always able to dig and find something that felt authentic to me that was good enough to be on the show but after years and years of going to the well without replenishing it, there was a cost.”
Burns has been healed after leaving the show. “My strategy had been: ‘Hey, you got a great thing going, so just fight it!’ Turns out, you don’t fight depression; you collect it. After I left Blue’s Clues, there was a long period of healing.”- he explained.
He also talked about the difficult time of losing his father in 2015 which has been a turning point for him. Blue’s Clues’ new movie Blue’s Big City Adventure will premiere on Nov. 18 on Paramount+.
