People in the National capital, Delhi are succumbing to death all due to oxygen and hospital shortage. New and mutated strains of the novel corona virus have taken over the whole country. Reported death rates are no where near the actual number of deaths that are taking place each day in Delhi, India.
The virus alone isn’t responsible for this mass execution. There is a grave shortage of oxygen supplies and Hospital bed for admitting patients. Doctors are helpless. People are helpless. The situation has taken a way worse turn that one could ever imagine.
But what is the reason behind all this? Why is oxygen becoming scarce in Delhi? Why are people dying of Oxygen shortage?
Even the Delhi High Court questioned the Central government regarding the shortage of oxygen on Thursday. Why does other States like Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra were allotted more oxygen than they had demanded, while Delhi was not even allotted its projected requirement (700 Metric tons)to treat the heavy load of COVID-19 patients.
Actually, the virus itself isn’t scary. But what it causes in immune-compromised patients is terrifying. People with strong immune system are self sufficient to fight off the virus. While those with any chronic ailments that has in a way made their immune system fragile to fight the viral particles are suffering due to pneumonia. General people with weakened immune system are also very prone to virus.
Once the virus reaches the lungs, it causes inflammation. This leads to filling up of the air sacs in the lungs with interstitial fluid. This causes a decrease in the oxygen saturation in the body. A person with up to 80% oxygen saturation requires artificial oxygen supply to sustain their lungs. Once, the level drops lower than that, it causes severe damage in the lungs.
If people don’t regularly check their oxygen levels in the body, they won’t even know about the damage that is taking place in their lungs. Many-a-times people feel very weak due to less oxygen levels in the body and neglect it as something else. Once, someone’s oxygen levels drop beyond 40%, they require high speed oxygen and hospitalization immediately in order to survive.
Inadequate oxygen supply has in a way lead to the saddening demise of those people, who could have survived this infection. Once a person doesn’t get adequate oxygen after facing consistently low levels, their lungs collapse and they body is devoid of any oxygen.
So, at this time, the required artificial oxygen supply is scarce in Delhi and in the whole country. Many other countries have even sent help due to flopping of the government. In a way, the government’s collapsed strategies has lead to the collapsing of people’s respiratory system.
