Earthquake of a very powerful intensity hits the coats of Indonesia’s Java Island on Saturday. As per the United States Geological Survey, the earthquake marked 6.0-magnitude. No tsunami warning was issued.
The earthquake was at a depth of 82 kilometers (50 miles), about 45 kilometers southwest of Malang city in East Java.
There were no reports of suddencasualties, but the temblor shook Malang, a city of several million people.
As per resident of Ida Magfiroh, ” It was pretty strong and went for a long time”.
“Everything was swaying”
Indonesia has its position on the Pacific “Ring of Fire” where tectonic plates collide. Because of this reason Indonesia experiences regular seismic and volcanic activity.
In 2018, a 7.5-magnitude earthquake and a consequent tsunami in Palu on Sulawesi island left more than 4,300 people missing or even dead.
On December 26, 2004, a disastrous 9.1-magnitude earthquake hit the coast of Sumatra. It also caused a tsunami that killed 220,000 throughout the region including 170,000 in Indonesia.
