Indianapolis FedEx facility faced a Mass shooting late Thursday night. Four Sikhs, including three women, were amongst eight people who were shot in a mass shooting. The place is staffed by a great number of Indian-American employees.
The community leaders were surprised by the incident that took place in Indianapolis. These leaders have previously appealed to President Joe Biden to handle the growing hate crimes and gun violence in the country.
The man behind the mass shooting was identified as 19-year-old Brandon Scott Hole. He was a former employee at the FedEx facility belonging to the year 2020. The man allegedly died by suicide after the shooting late Thursday night at the FedEx facility in Indianapolis.
Brandon Scott Hole was interviewed by FBI agents last year after his mother rang police to say that her son might commit suicide by cop.
This incident is among one of the worst Sikh massacres in the US after the Oak Creek Gurdwara mass shooting in Wisconsin on August 5, 2012. Previously in Oak Creek Gurudwara, seven members of the community were killed.
Nearly 90% of the workers at this delivery service facility are said to be Indian-Americans. Most of the workers are from the Sikh community.
“This is very heart-breaking. The Sikh community is devastated by this tragic incident,” said the community leader Gurinder Singh Khalsa. He spoke to PTI over the phone after meeting family members of the employees of the FedEx facility.
The Marion County Coroner’s Office and Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) issued the names of the victims on late Friday night.
Four victims belonging to the Sikh community are Amarjeet Johal (66), Jaswinder Kaur (64), Amarjit Skhon (48), and Jaswinder Singh (68). The first three victims are women.
Additional victims who were shot include Karli Smith, Alexander Matt, Samaria Blackwell, and John White.
One more Sikh community member, Harpreet Singh Gill, 45, got injured. He was hit by a bullet near the eye and is now in hospital.
The IMPD said the coroner’s office will investigate the elements of death after autopsies are completed.
US President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have expressed condolences over the tragic killings in Indianapolis.
