Kim Kardashian joked about being a’shapeshifter’ during a desperate attempt to fit into Marilyn Monroe’s dress before the Met Gala.
Kim Kardashian was once told she couldn’t wear Marilyn Monroe’s dress to the Met Gala because she pretended to be a’shapeshifter’ in a desperate attempt to fit into the historic gown.
The reality star, 41, was heartbroken when the dress’s owners, Ripley’s Believe It Or Not, told her she couldn’t wear it after paying $4.8 million for it in 2016.The drama unfolds in the most recent episode of Hulu’s The Kardashians, as viewers see for the first time what happened.
The seventh episode finally shows the process of attempting to obtain the iconic dress that Marilyn wore to sing Happy Birthday to President John F. Kennedy in 1962.
Kim Kardashian was followed by cameras as she participated in the first try-on session, where she was given a replica – the dress fit, but Kim said it was ‘too big.’
So… I’m not sure how to persuade the guy who owns the original Marilyn gown that I’m a shape shifter. “This has stretch… the original doesn’t,” she explained.
“So I only have one shot… Kim added, “and I just f***ing ate.”
In her confession, she stated: “The replica dress fits me perfectly and is a size large on me, and I thought to myself, ‘Oh my God, this is perfect, I bet the fabric shrunk a little bit over time… but the dress will fit.’
Later in the episode, in a conversation with sisters Khloe and Kourtney, Kim reveals what happened after Ripley’s sent the original dress for another trial fitting.
They just took everything away from me, and I’m furious “She stated.”I had to try the prototype first to see if it fit, and once it did, they sent the original,” Kim explained. And when I tried it on, it wouldn’t even go up over my hips, and I was devastated.”
Cameras then capture Kim’s realisation that the dress would not fit, as she says, “You know what, I’ll try everything, and if I really get 10 pounds down, then we’ll try it again.”
Kim Kardashian claims she sent a “grovelling, begging email” to the owners, but they were “very firm.”
She explained to her sisters: “They said, “If we can’t get insurance, we’ll get insurance.” I have an answer for everything, but they say, “No, we can’t.” I only found out today, and I’m devastated.”
Kim Kardashian was eventually allowed to wear the gown for a few minutes on the show’s red carpet before changing into the replica for the rest of the evening.
She sparked outrage at the time when reports surfaced that she had damaged the garment, which Kim and Ripley’s have since denied.
