The Friend’s alum stepfather Keith Morrison opens up about his late son’s life dealing with grief and sorrow. Five months after the tragic passing of the 54-year-old actor, Dateline correspondent Keith Morrison is opening up about the process of his stepson’s dealing with his grief on Hoda Kotb’s Making Space podcast’s latest episode!

Morrison Tells Son Matthew Perry’s Loss is Not Been Easy for the Family

The 76-year-old journalist, who was married to Mathew’s Mom Suzanne, in 1981, paid tribute to his late son and shared his Last memory of him before his Oct 28, 2023, tragic passing.

Morrison told Kotb, “As other people have told me hundreds of times, it doesn’t go away. It’s with you every day. It’s with you all the time, and there’s some new aspect of it that assaults your brain,” he later said. “It’s not easy, especially for his mom.”

Morrison also unveiled Perry’s sweet relationship with his mother later on the show by claiming, “Toward the end of his life, they were closer than I’ve seen them for decades. Texting each other constantly and sharing things with her that most middle-aged men don’t share with their mothers.”

The Friend’s star also opened out about his experiences with alcoholism and substance misuse to promote his memoir called  “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Things”, which has become a New York Times and Amazon bestseller. The Memoir had been also admired by his fellow Friends co-stars.

Perry’s steps have been adorned and encouraged by both his Friends and Fans who were willing to see more of him but sadly the Actor’s life was shortened on Oct 28.

An autopsy report released in December 2023, by the Los Angeles County medical examiner claims the death of the actor is due to Contributing factors of drowning, coronary artery disease and the effects of buprenorphine. 

Morrison identified Perry to authorities and said “An autopsy report was released in December 2023.” When he asked if the death news surprised him he said,  “Yes and no, I guess is the answer to that.”

The Dateline show host later mentioned Perry as “a larger-than-life person,” stating that he was “always the centre of attention everywhere he went.”

“That’s gone, but you still feel the echo of it everywhere,” Morrison sadly said.

The Matthew Perry Foundation released a statement that reads, “The Matthew Perry Foundation is the realization of Matthew’s enduring commitment to helping others struggling with the disease of addiction. It will honour his legacy and be guided by his own words and experiences and driven by his passion for making a difference in as many lives as possible.”
