Sanjay Leela Bhansali finally addressed the hype regarding the next season of Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. The series which is currently streaming on Netflix also marked the OTT debut of the director. Despite receiving mixed reviews from the critics and audience the series has been running successfully since it was released on May 1st making history of achieving 4.5 million views and accumulating 33 million viewership hours in just the first week. In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, the filmmaker addressed whether there will be a second season for this period drama. Let’s check out what he has said.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali said he didn’t have the right to decide if there would be a second season
Bhansali said in the interview, “First of all, thank you for loving season one. But whether season two happens or not depends on Netflix announcing it if they want to go ahead with it. They are the producers and the best producers I have ever worked with in 30 years. I keep telling them I’ve done some good karma to have had the chance to work with people like them. But the decision to do season two comes from them, not from me.”
The series is set in the lives of a group of courtesans and noblemen whose personal conflicts collide with the independence struggle of India. Previously, talking with IMDb the director noted, “We’ve made it, I’ve enjoyed making it, and I’m thankful to God that we made it… It was a very difficult project. Nobody else will ever be able to make Heeramandi again, nor will I be able to make it again, because it happens once.”
Describing the series Sanjay Leela Bhansali said, “This is a story of love, power, freedom, and extraordinary women, their desires, and struggles. It marks a new milestone in my journey. In Netflix, we found the ideal partner—- one who not only shares our love for storytelling but also possesses the unparalleled capability to bring our series to the most diverse and global audience imaginable.”
The ensemble cast includes Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Sanjeeda Shaikh, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sharmin Segal, Fardeen Khan, Shekhar, and Adhyayan Suman.
