Ustad Amjad Ali Khan revealed how family dynamics influence their musical collaborations
During his interview with Indian Times, the sarod legend was asked how he balanced the family dynamics in their musical collaborations on stage, to which he responded, “We always taught sanskaar, ghar ka mahaul peaceful ho, musical ho, harmonious ho. Toh, it is easier for the children to grasp and understand the message of the family. So, it becomes easier for them to realize the value of music, the value of togetherness, and the value of learning Indian classical music.”
Meanwhile, Ayaan’s twin 10-year-old sons Zohaan and Abeer also opened up about their experience of sharing the stage with their legendary grandfather, father, and uncle. Abeer said in the interview, “I feel blessed. It’s always a blessing to be on stage when it’s all five of us,” while Zohaan said, “It’s an honour to be on stage with dada abba. We are blessed to be getting this opportunity.”
As for their father, Ayaan, he added, “Zohaan and Abeer are very blessed to have received so much love and blessings from music lovers so early in their life. I really hope that they build their own legacy and take forward the universal message of music. This is just a beginning for them to seek blessings and refine their craft which itself is a big blessing. I am so grateful.”
His brother Amaan Ali Bangash also added, “I feel so thrilled to be performing on stage with both my twin nephews. They are both the love of our lives and we feel so blessed to see them start performing with us. The responsibility of taking forward a legacy puts a certain kind of pressure on children. I do feel that standards and expectations are quite set. They are so blessed to get so much love from all music lovers.”
