Armaan Malik got candid about his experience of singing with Grammy-winning singer Ed Sheeran. The singer-songwriter recently performed with Sheeran during his ÷ x Mathematics Tour tour in India. Sheeran and Malik first collaborated on the song “2step” which they also performed on stage. The singer who recently sat down for an interview with indianexpress.com revealed what international collaborations mean to Indian artists. Let’s check out the complete details of his interview.
Armaan Malik said performing with Ed Sheeran is a dream come true
The 28-year-old told the outlet, “From writing my verse to recording it and finally performing the song live with Ed Sheeran in my country, has been a dream come true.”
Apart from performing their 2022 collaboration “2step” the pair also danced to Armaan’s Telugu song “Butto Bomma” which Malik shared on Instagram and took the internet by storm. “It was lovely meeting Ed in person finally. He is among the most humble and sweetest humans I have ever met. Catching up with him in my city (Mumbai) was so much fun. We enjoyed a delicious Indian meal, got to share some new music with each other, danced a lot to desi songs, and just spoke so much. My heart is so full!” Armaan recalled about the English singer.
Talking about his experience collaborating with the singer he states that it came as a “surprise.” “When his team approached me to work on the song, I immediately sat down to write the lyrics with Kunaal Vermaa, who helped me put together my emotions into a verse. I remember Ed being super supportive throughout the collab and giving me the creative freedom to express my feelings as an artiste. I am truly grateful for this opportunity and I am sure we shall do another collaboration soon,” the “Jab Tak” singer noted.
The singer who also joined American DJ Marshmello during his recent Holi performance in Mumbai talked about the increase in Western artists teaming up with Indian musicians. Armaan said, “The collaborations and accolades reflect a positive shift in how Indian musicians are perceived internationally, opening doors for more cross-cultural exchanges and creative partnerships. It’s an exciting time for Indian music on the global stage, and I am proud to be part of this journey.”
Moreover, the singer believes Indian songs despite being immensely popular in the West the singers of the songs didn’t get proper recognition. However, “Now, with the growth of digital and streaming platforms, Indian musicians are getting the recognition they deserve. I believe the West is now increasingly recognising the depth and diversity of talent in India’s music scene,” as Malik puts in.
