The mega-star rapper Cardi B made a huge revelation at Sunday’s BET Awards. She used her performance with Migos to reveal that she’s expecting a second baby with her husband Offset.
She wore a diamante-studded outfit, with a cut-out section to showcase her baby bump.
Just after the performance, Cardi confirmed the news with an Instagram post with a simple caption – “#2”.
At the award ceremony, the star won two prizes, best video and best collaboration, for WAP – a duet with Megan Thee Stallion.
The BET Awards or the Black Entertainment TV Awards celebrates the achievements made by black artists. And this year’s theme was “Year of the Black Women”.
“Celebrating black women isn’t a fad or a trend, it’s a forever mood,” said actress and host Taraji P Henson as she opened the ceremony.
“There is more than enough room for all of us to thrive, because can’t nobody be like me and can’t nobody be you like you.”
The biggest winner of the night was the Texan rapper Meghan Thee Stallion. She scored four awards, including two for WAP.
Moreover, she was awarded as the best female hip-hop artist second year in a row; and the viewer’s choice award for Savage – her collaboration with Beyoncé.
The lifetime achievement award was given to the rap pioneer Queen Latifah. She held back tears as artists like Lil’ Kim, MC Lyte and Monie Love performed a medley of her hits.
While accepting her prize, Latifah thanked BET for “creating an outlet for beautiful blackness to thrive, to shine.
“When we couldn’t get played on the radio in other places, we couldn’t get our videos played in other places, there was BET that allowed us to be in our fullness.”
The star also brought a photo of her late mother onto the stage, saying: “I’ve always celebrated women because I was raised by a strong black woman”.
The British singer Bree Runway earned the best new international act; whereas Nigeria’s Burna Boy seized the best international act for the third year in a row.
Furthermore, Lil Baby took the best male hip-hop artist for the first time and singer H.E.R bests the 10-time winner Beyoncé in the best female R&B category.
The award for the best actor was given to the late Chadwick Boseman. Judas and the Black Messiah was named as the best movie.
