Actress Constance Wu, best known for starring in the hit film Crazy Rich Asians, recently revealed on Twitter that she attempted suicide after facing social media backlash in 2019. After almost three years, the star tweeted about her mental health.
In 2019, Constance Wu faced social media backlash for her negative tweets regarding the renewal of her series, Fresh Off The Boat. Wu will reportedly release her upcoming book which is titled Making a Scene. In her Twitter post, the actress said, “I was afraid of coming back on social media because I almost lost my life from it. 3 years ago, when I made careless tweets about the renewal of my TV show, it ignited outrage and internet shaming that got pretty severe”.

The actress further added, “I felt awful about what I’d said, and when a few DMs from a fellow Asian actress told me I’d become a blight on the Asian American community, I started feeling like I didn’t even deserve to live anymore. That I was a disgrace to AsAms, and they’d be better off without me”. The actress further wrote, “Looking back, it’s surreal that a few DMs convinced me to end my own life, but that’s what happened. Luckily, a friend found me and rushed me to the ER”.
In 2019, the actress tweeted about the show getting renewed by saying, “So upset right now that I’m literally crying. Ugh. F**k”. When a fan tweeted “great news”, she replied by tweeting “No it’s not”. The 40-year-old actor said that this scary moment made her re-evaluate her life. Constance Wu also took a break from acting to focus and improve her mental health. Last, she appeared in the series The Terminal List.
