Kangana Ranaut’s much-anticipated biographical drama Emergency is coming to the theatre this year. The actress who will also serve as the director and writer of the film has also announced the release date of this movie a day after attending the auspicious Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha ceremony in Ayodhya on 22nd January. On January 23, the three-time National Award-winning actress unveiled the release date to the entire world. In the movie, Kangana will be seen in the role of the late Prime Minister Mrs.Indira Gandhi. Let’s check out the complete details of this story.
Emergency is releasing on 14th June, 2024
Kangana captioned the post, “Unlock the story behind India’s darkest hour. Announcing Emergency on 14th June, 2024. Witness history come alive as the most feared and fiercest Prime Minister. Indira Gandhi thunders into cinemas. Emergency in cinemas on 14th June, 2024.”
As per news agency PTI, the actress also said in a statement, “Emergency is my most ambitious project and second directorial post-Manikarnika, we have the best of Indian and international talent come together for this big budget, grand period drama.”
Although the movie was previously scheduled to release on November 24, 2023, the date was postponed till June of 2024.
Produced by Zee Studios and Manikarnika Films, Emergency will show the audience a mega-budget depiction of the most controversial spectacle in the history of Indian Democracy. The official logline reads, “Standing at the core of this is one of the most sensational leaders of all time the first woman prime minister of India, Mrs Indira Gandhi.”
Previously in an interview, Kangana shared her excitement on acting and directing this movie. As per ANI, the 37-year-old said, “Emergency is one of the most significant and darkest chapters in our history that young India needs to know. It is a crucial story and I want to thank my super-talented actors like late Satish ji, Anupam ji, Shreyas, Mahima, and Milind for embarking on this creative journey together. I am excited to bring this extraordinary episode from India’s history to the big screen. Jaihind!”
Apart from Ranaut, actors like Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair and the late Satish Kaushik will also feature in this film. Ritesh Shah will serve as the writer of screenplay and dialogues of the movie. The story revolves around the life of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. This movie also marks Kangana’s first solo directorial film.
